Hans Jørgen Koch is the Executive Director of Nordic Energy Research (NER) a research and analysis institution under the auspices of Nordic Council of Ministers. NER funds pan-Nordic Energy Research and analysis-projects and together with IEA prepare Nordic Energy Technology Perspectives.
Hans Jørgen Koch will present some of the key findings from Nordic Energy Technology Perspectives 2016 on the current and future use of energy in Nordic cities according to the Carbon Neutral Scenario developed to meet Nordic climate and energy targets by 2050. He will also highlight some key achievements in Nordic cities related to urban energy systems, energy efficiency and low-carbon transport solutions. What can other countries and regions learn from the Nordic experience?
In the periods 1982-1994 and 2002-2014 Koch was Director General, Deputy Permanent Secretary of State, in the Ministries responsible for energy issues in Denmark. From 1994-2002, he was director in IEA/OECD,Paris, responsible for Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and for Research, Development and Deployment. He has for a 3-decade-period been a member of the Governing Board of IEA and of EU’s High-Level-Group on Energy. Koch was one of the founding fathers of The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and has been one of the leading voices in international, intergovernmental collaboration on energy for decades.”
